BUYING LAND ON THE BAY ISLANDS |

Foreigners, as individuals, are allowed to purchase up to 3000 square meters of land, which is about 3/4 of an acre. Foreign owners purchasing undeveloped land have a period of three years to develop their land. At this time the government is not enforcing this regulation. However, as the purpose of the law is to encourage foreign investment, it may be implemented to encourage development of the Foreign owned properties on The Bay Islands. To attain properties greater than 3000 square meters a Honduran corporation is formed through a Honduran attorney at a cost of about $1000. In designating yourself as 'General Manager' and/or 'Administrator' of the corporation, you are entitled to all the rights of a Honduran citizen, regarding ownership of your property and corporate finance. This is a shareholding corporation where you are the Sole Administrator with all shares under your control. The corporate fees charged by the Municipalities for foreign administered companies is $530.00/year. Capitol Gains Tax is at 4%. The cost of residency is $2000.00 U.S. Immigration policy and an open government allow foreigners to gain legal resident status as retirees, investors and employees of Honduran Corporations. The Bay Islands welcome new investment and will be the "Discovered Islands" in the near future. This is a fantastic time to invest. There are many new government incentives in the works including a Free Trade Zone and Free Port. Also, an existing government incentive grants 10 year tax free status for tourism related projects.
